Bremerton Summer Brew Fest is back!

Summer brew festLast summer, I figuring out a well-kept secret: The Bremerton Summer Brew Fest. I say “well-kept secret” because unlike some of the other larger, more well attended brew fests organized by the Washington Beer Commission, this one sort of flies under the radar for most folks. Coming up on its third year, not too many people have caught on yet. And likely due to the fact that the fest is held in downtown Bremerton, many might be led to believe that the location is difficult to get to. In reality, this brew fest is incredibly accessible and you don’t even have to set foot in your car to do attend!

The Bremerton Summer Brew Fest is on a Saturday afternoon, this year on July 13 from noon to 6:30 p.m. and here’s exactly how to get there:

What I’m attempting to point out with this simplistic map is: All you need to do to attend this fantastic, low-key beer fest is walk or bus downtown (Seattle) to the ferry terminal, walk on the ferry, walk off the ferry, and you’re there. It’s that easy.

Another season of NW Beer Night begins Thursday: Are you ready?

As some of you may already know, I had the distinct pleasure of working with Brian Calvert’s latest project, Northwest Beer Night last season. And by some miracle, Mr. Calvert was kind enough to ask me back to continue working as beer consultant and guest for the upcoming season as well.

As I mentioned in my previous post about NW Beer Night, each 15-20 minute episode highlights beers made in the Pacific Northwest and their varying styles and flavors. Four panelists (none of which are particularly beer experts, but all enjoy a wide variety of craft beer) taste and compare two beers side-by-side in one style category and discuss for the audience’s benefit what does and does not appeal to them about each beer.

With the new season, a bit more relaxed and also challenging format has been introduced to the show. Not every beer style will showcase beers that are easily comparable. Seasonal beers have also been introduced into the mix, making things a bit more timely and also educational for those of you who are interested in some of the local seasonal offerings but not sure exactly how they differ and vary from more “traditional” styles. If you’ve been following the show since the last season, the scoring system has been tossed out and instead the guests on the show talk about which beer (of the two) appealed most to them or fit the style best.
